Yep...been there done that! I told Jonathan one morning as I was recovering from a minor stroke (yea...a stroke...44 years old...a story for another day) that I wanted to serve. As we talked about many things, we talked about my long job search and all of the things I wish I had done differently and about the STUPID mistakes I had made. I made a few...worked for the wrong person for a while...turned down a good job because the money wasn't just right. Needless to say, I really learned alot. That experience brought me to do this today. I'm just a guy who was laid off and worked hard to find a job. My old company send me to a great outplacement company and they trained me on how to find a job. I followed their steps, I went to networking meetings, I went to job fairs, I hit the internet hard, I prayed alot and finally, I got a "meaningful" job. I had to keep food on the table so I had a few jobs that were less than meaningful. Training can only get you so far, you have to get YOU the rest of the way. Along the way, I met with many good people and got great advice. So where am I going with this...good question! I don't want you to have to go through the same mistakes I had to go through.
Starting Tuesday Morning, 7:30am at Graysone Church, we're going through a seminar of sorts...This Tuesday, we're talking about having a plan. Whether you have a job and are looking or are unemployed and really looking or anywhere in between, we going to talk about having a plan.
I'll talk about:
what your emotions do in a layoff situation,
your 30 second commercial,
a reason for leaving statement,
having a daily plan,
staying positive,
who is in your network,
what other resources are out there.
We're also going to talk about Hope! Hope is a great thing!
The great thing is that you will have folks around you who are going through the same thing and others who have been through it (like me). Please come and bring anyone who needs help! Everyone is welcome!
Matthew -7:7-8 7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
